STOCKS | General Motors Bets on Diesel Range for Redesigned Silverado and Sierra

General Motors will launch redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups in the fourth quarter. According to Sina Finance, the two models will continue to offer a 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six diesel engine and an optional 34-gallon fuel tank, giving them a highway range of more than 900 miles. The new Duramax diesel still produces 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. General Motors said it adjusted the pistons, turbo guide vanes, fuel injection system, and nitrogen oxide sensors, and increased the diesel exhaust fluid tank by about 2 gallons to extend the distance between refills. Based on highway fuel economy of about 27 miles per gallon for the two-wheel-drive version, the 34-gallon tank implies a theoretical range of about 918 miles. General Motors said actual range will still depend on payload, towing weight, drivetrain, speed, and ambient temperature. The diesel version is positioned for long-distance efficiency rather than maximum towing power. The Silverado diesel can tow up to 12,000 pounds, while the Sierra diesel can tow about 12,100 pounds. Both are below the peak figures for models equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 engine. The new Silverado and Sierra will keep four engine options in total. The entry-level 2.7-liter TurboMax turbocharged four-cylinder rises to 350 horsepower and 455 pound-feet, the new 5.7-liter V8 delivers 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet, and the 6.6-liter V8 reaches 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet. All four engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
