STOCKS | Jamie Dimon Backs Light-Touch Federal AI Regulation

Jamie Dimon said he supports light-touch federal regulation for the artificial intelligence industry, arguing that different state laws would hinder AI business activity. According to Sina Finance, the longtime JPMorgan Chase CEO made the remarks in an interview. Dimon said that if regulation is necessary, it should be federal and use a light-touch approach. He added that state governments would each have their own views and that business activity would be difficult if companies had to deal with different laws in every state. According to Sina Finance, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei last week called on major labs to take steps to prevent AI harm, including slowing frontier model development and pushing the government to regulate the industry as a whole. U.S. President Donald Trump criticized those calls on Truth Social on Monday. Dimon also said JPMorgan Chase has been working with Anthropic on frontier model risk and has been speaking with federal officials about building new mechanisms to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities. According to Sina Finance, Bloomberg reported that JPMorgan Chase recently finalized a $1.5 billion pre-IPO credit facility for Anthropic as part of a syndicate. Dimon said JPMorgan Chase is repairing technical vulnerabilities in its own systems, sharing relevant research findings, and conducting broad research into large model capabilities while continuing discussions with the AI industry and the U.S. federal government.
