Anthropic Merges Claude Cowork and Chat Into One Claude

Anthropic said Claude Cowork and chat have been merged into a single Claude starting immediately. According to ChainCatcher, users can now ask short questions or assign deadline-driven tasks, and Claude can continue working after the computer is turned off. The company said the capability will roll out to Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks before expanding to more plans. Claude Docs and Claude Slides are also launching, while Claude Design can now be used inside conversations. Users can co-write documents or draft slides with Claude, including direct editing, presenting within Claude, and downloading files as PowerPoint or PDF. The three features are currently in testing on paid plans, and enterprise administrators can decide when to enable them. The standalone Claude Design product will remain available. Anthropic said the previous separation between Cowork and Design made task routing and context continuity less convenient. The company said Claude can now determine which capabilities a task requires and use existing context, skills, and connectors in any conversation. Chat users do not need to change how they use the product, while Cowork users will keep chat, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills. Team and Free plans will follow later, and enterprise administrators will receive at least 30 days' notice before organizational changes.
