DoorDash Invests in Marc Lore's Wonder

DoorDash will invest $125 million in Wonder and acquire Wonder's campus dining business for $300 million. According to Sina Finance, the two companies said the deal also leaves open the possibility that DoorDash could take over Wonder's delivery business in the future. Wonder operates its own kitchens and offers delivery meals under its own brand, making it a competitor to DoorDash in some respects. DoorDash said its model is to handle delivery orders for partner restaurants. The companies also said DoorDash's investment will count toward Wonder's $650 million Series D financing announced in July. The campus dining business was originally acquired by Grubhub in 2018, and students can place orders through a mobile app for delivery from restaurants on campus.
