Mauritania Summons Iranian Ambassador Over 'Unacceptable' Actions

Mauritania's Foreign Ministry summoned Iran's ambassador on September 14 local time and lodged a formal protest over certain actions and activities it said were "inconsistent with diplomatic norms and traditions," according to Jiemian News. The ministry said it wants the Iranian mission to strictly follow diplomatic norms and relevant rules, respect Mauritania's sovereignty, and refrain from interfering in its internal affairs, while still hoping to maintain bilateral ties. Mauritanian officials have not disclosed what specifically triggered the diplomatic dispute, and Iran had not responded as of the report.
