Canada and Ukraine signed multiple declarations and cooperation plans on Thursday, including a century-long partnership declaration and a drone cooperation project. According to Sina Finance, the framework for the 100-year partnership is still being developed and is intended to elevate bilateral ties into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also signed a joint statement on defense and security cooperation, as well as a commitment to cooperate in critical minerals. Zelensky told reporters he was pleased the two sides had signed the documents, saying they represented practical results from the cooperation.
Carney also reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to provide additional military aid to meet Ukraine’s needs for air defense systems and equipment, supporting the Freya project. He said Canada will launch a national drone market for the Canadian Armed Forces, giving the country the capacity to produce millions of drones within the next two years.
