Air Traffic Shutdown Leaves Passengers Out of Pocket

Catie and Phil Allen say a four-hour shutdown of the UK’s air traffic control system on Tuesday left them more than £1,000 out of pocket after their British Airways flight to Ljubljana was cancelled, according to BBC. Their flight was refunded, but they lost money on separately booked accommodation and excursions, while their travel insurer said any claim would be invalid because the disruption was outside the policy. Aviation Minister Keir Mather told MPs the disruption caused by Nats was “unacceptable”, and said there will be an independent review by the Civil Aviation Authority. Flight data firm Cirium said the aviation system had “stabilised significantly” on Thursday, with 54 of 3,028 scheduled arrivals and 47 of 3,033 scheduled departures affected.
