According to the BBC, Uganda is pulling out of the Invictus Games, a sports event for wounded military veterans run by the Duke of Sussex, only two months after saying it would join. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda's chief of defence and son of the president, announced the decision in a post on X, saying the withdrawal was intended to avoid being seen as opposing King Charles III.
A Uganda government spokesman confirmed the move to the BBC and said Kainerugaba decides whether the Uganda People's Defence Force participates in the games. The spokesman added that if his position changes, he will let the world know. The participation of Uganda in next year's games in Birmingham was announced in July, when Prince Harry was in London promoting the event, and Uganda had become the 26th country to take part.
