South Korea to Expand Class-Action System Across All Consumer Sectors

South Korea will introduce a class-action system across all consumer sectors to strengthen consumer rights protection. According to Sina Finance, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said at a Consumer Policy Committee meeting that the government will also expand consumer data rights in the AI era and significantly tighten safety inspections. Han said the government will build a comprehensive consumer protection system with no blind spots, extend class-action coverage to all consumer sectors, and create a new court order requiring companies to submit relevant data so victims can obtain compensation when large-scale consumer rights violations occur. Class-action rulings apply not only to the plaintiffs in a case but also to other affected groups.
