Southbound leveraged SK Hynix ETF (07709) rose 8.5% to HK$44.56, after touching HK$44.60 intraday, its highest level in more than a month. The stock has gained for three straight sessions and is up 33.4% over that span, with turnover of about 20.77 million shares worth HK$919 million, according to ETNet.
KB Securities said inventories at Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have fallen to less than 10 days of supply, and it expects supply to tighten further next year. The broker said HBM4 requires about three times as many wafers as conventional DRAM, and continued expansion of HBM4 capacity will further squeeze DRAM output. It expects DRAM and NAND demand next year to exceed supply by more than 10%.
South Korean equities were also firmer, with SK Hynix's local shares up 3% to a one-month high and Samsung Electronics up 1.5%. The KOSPI index was up 1.8% intraday. In Hong Kong, Southbound leveraged Samsung ETF (07747) rose 5.3% to HK$82, Southbound KOSPI ETF (03121) gained 2.3% to HK$7, and A South Korea Covered Call ETF (03537) added 1.7% to HK$10.04. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index was down 0.7% at 25,244, with mainboard turnover above HK$24.8 billion.
