According to Axios, dozens of Latino lawmakers and leaders are urging Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who chairs the Democratic Governors Association, to commit $10 million to the Texas governor's race, according to a letter Axios obtained. The letter says not investing in Texas would send a message to Latino voters ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections, and it argues that Texas state Rep. Gina Hinojosa has come closer than any recent candidate to winning the governor's office without major DGA support. Beshear said he expects more investment but would not announce a figure because that would help the Republican Governors Association, and he said the DGA is already paying expenses and providing staff. DGA communications director Sam Newton said the group will be ready to capitalize on opportunities in the race. The letter was also signed by Texas Reps. Greg Casar and Joaquin Castro, who argued that an Abbott victory would affect the U.S. House and said Gov. Greg Abbott could further gerrymander the state and eliminate up to 10 more Democratic-held congressional seats over the next four years.
