Brazil Court Halts Sigma Lithium Mine Over Indigenous Land Dispute

A Brazilian court ordered the suspension of all environmental permits held by Sigma Lithium's operating subsidiary, Sigma Mineração, and required the company to fully stop mining at its Grota do Cirilo lithium project. According to Sina Finance, the Minas Gerais Quilombola Communities Federation sought the emergency injunction, accusing the miner of overstating the distance between the project and the traditional territory of the Baú Quilombola Indigenous community. The company said its Grota do Cirilo mine, located in the area known as Brazil's "Lithium Valley," is one of the world's largest hard-rock lithium deposits and includes a processing plant.
