Banco do Brasil said it has invested $5 million of its own funds in a digital-native structured note transaction issued by Citi and completed through Euroclear’s Digital Financial Market Infrastructure platform, marking the first such deal in Latin America. According to Odaily, the bank said blockchain technology can enable native digital asset issuance, reduce operational steps, and improve transaction traceability, laying the groundwork for new trading, settlement, and asset management models.
Banco do Brasil Wholesale Banking Vice President Franscisco Lassalvia said decentralized digital technology has become a long-term structural trend in financial markets. Citi Global Markets equity structured products manager Roksolana Dushynska said distributed ledger technology can improve capital market efficiency, transparency, and investor access. Banco do Brasil previously took part in the Brazilian central bank’s Drex digital currency pilot and proposed an offline payment solution. The bank is controlled by the Brazilian federal government and is listed on Brazil’s securities market.
