Elon Musk Responds to Documentary Calling Him the “Most Miserable Person”

Elon Musk pushed back on an upcoming documentary that described him as the “most miserable person.” According to Sina Finance, Musk posted on X that he is happy about half the time, feels neutral about 40% of the time, and feels sad about 10% of the time. Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, shared a Wednesday report from The Hollywood Reporter about a new documentary by director Alex Gibney. The film quotes an anonymous source close to Musk as saying, “He is the most miserable person I have ever met.” Maye Musk called the claim “very strange” and said she had never seen him miserable, adding that it was only her own feeling as his mother. The nearly four-hour documentary argues that Musk is dangerously “accumulating power” through control of vast amounts of data. Gibney described Musk as “a fraud whose power comes from the stock market” and said at the end of the film that as Musk “seizes more power” and becomes “less restrained in his worst impulses,” “suffering will continue to accumulate.” According to Forbes data, Musk is the world’s richest person with a net worth of $926.2 billion. In June, after SpaceX completed a high-profile initial public offering, his wealth briefly topped $1 trillion. The documentary does not include an interview with Musk. It will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 8, open in theaters in October, and is scheduled to debut on HBO in the first half of 2027. Gibney is an Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker known for exposing powerful institutions, including Enron, Scientology, and the U.S. military.
