According to CNBC, Microsoft’s Xbox unit said it will impose monthly cloud gaming time limits for Game Pass subscribers starting in November, ending years of unlimited access as it looks to better balance usage and costs. Players will be able to buy additional hours beyond the caps, though the company did not disclose pricing for the extra time. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, who pay $22.99 a month, will get 15 hours of cloud gaming, Game Pass Premium subscribers at $14.99 a month will get 10 hours, and Game Pass Essential subscribers at $9.99 a month will get five hours. Microsoft said only 4% of Game Pass subscribers spend more than that amount of time each month streaming games through the cloud. The company also said people who do not subscribe to Game Pass will be able to buy cloud gaming time to stream games they already own.
