According to CNBC, President Donald Trump will meet Wednesday with executives from major airlines, hotel chains and travel companies as the White House seeks to build on a summer tourism boost tied in part to the men's FIFA World Cup. The meeting will include representatives from American Airlines, Booking Holdings, Caesars Entertainment, Carnival, Hard Rock International, Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, MGM Resorts International, Raffles & Fairmont and the Venetian, according to a White House official.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman, White House FIFA World Cup task force Executive Director Andrew Giuliani and sports and entertainment executive Casey Wasserman are also expected to attend. White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said Trump will meet with members of the U.S. Travel Association to celebrate what she called a historic summer travel season and a boost to local economies and small businesses.
Spending on U.S. travel rose 6.2% from a year earlier in June to $122.1 billion, the strongest monthly reading in a year, according to the U.S. Travel Association. The group said the increase was helped by peak summer demand and higher hotel rates in cities hosting World Cup matches. More recent data showed overseas arrivals fell 7% in July from a year earlier and were down 4.7% for the year to date.
