The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said it will hold a roundtable on 24-hour trading readiness on September 17 from 10:00 to 16:00 U.S. Eastern Time at its Washington, D.C. headquarters. According to ChainCatcher, the meeting will be open to the public, livestreamed on the SEC website, and require advance registration for in-person attendance.
The SEC said the discussion will focus on preparations for launching a 24-hour trading market, operational resilience, and the broader effects of extended trading. The agenda includes opening remarks from the SEC chair, commissioners, and the director of the Division of Trading and Markets, followed by a data presentation from the division’s Office of Analytics and Research.
The event will feature three panels. The first will examine exchange and broker-dealer readiness, overnight supervision, closing price processes, clearing and settlement adjustments, and investor protection measures. The second will address systems readiness, Regulation SCI requirements, failover, capacity planning, market data continuity, cybersecurity, and overnight staffing. The third will discuss the potential impact of longer trading hours on liquidity, capital formation, issuers, and market structure, as well as infrastructure changes needed for a possible move to 24x7 trading.
