California Meme Coin Regulation Bill Awaits Governor's Signature

California's meme coin regulation bill, AB 2409, has passed both the state Assembly and Senate and is now awaiting the governor's signature to take effect. According to Odaily, the bill would bar public officials and government employees from issuing meme coins and would prohibit meme coin trading for California residents starting January 1, 2027. If signed, it would become the first state-level bill in the U.S. to impose systematic legal restrictions on meme coins.
