Lee Jae-myung Says South Korea Can Lead AI Era After San Francisco Declaration

According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Yonhap, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said a San Francisco-based “AI declaration” showed South Korea’s vision to become a unique leader in the AI era. Speaking by video link from Brasilia on Sunday, July 26, while chairing a meeting of chief secretaries and senior aides, Lee said his visit to San Francisco had helped South Korean companies build partnerships with global tech giants and upgrade ties with global technology firms into an “AI alliance.” He instructed relevant ministries to closely implement follow-up measures so the results can lift South Korea’s economy and tangibly improve people’s lives. Lee also said Monday, July 27, marked the 73rd anniversary of the signing of the Korean War armistice and UN Command Forces Day. He said South Korea, once weak and powerless 70 years ago, defended freedom and democracy with help from the international community, and that its people created the Miracle on the Han River from the ruins of war. He added that the government will devote all its effort to AI, high-tech industries and culture to lead the world. Last Friday, July 24, Lee delivered the San Francisco AI declaration, saying South Korea would work with global tech companies to lead a new AI era. South Korea’s semiconductor giants also announced a major AI cooperation deal worth USD 950 billion, or about SGD 1.22 trillion, with US technology companies.
