Iranian Brigadier General Akraminia said Tehran "took action to defend its rights" after the United States violated its commitments, tried to open a false and illegal route in the Strait of Hormuz, and breached a bilateral memorandum signed in June. According to Jin10, Tasnim News Agency reported that Akraminia said Iranian forces would make U.S. bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain the core targets of the operation, and that these bases are among the most important U.S. military bases in the region.
He also said the memorandum reached in June over management of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz had broken down after a dispute between the United States and Iran. According to Jin10, U.S. media reported that U.S. President Donald Trump suspended the attacks on Friday because of concerns over the depletion of U.S. interceptor missile stockpiles and to leave room for diplomatic talks.
