Iranian Parliament Committees Review Draft Bill on the Strait of Hormuz

According to Al Jazeera, citing Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee is reviewing a draft bill on managing the Strait of Hormuz with the judiciary, economic, and civil affairs subcommittees. The draft has not been publicly released, but officials previously said it is intended to establish Iran's sovereignty over the waterway and propose fees for ships passing through it. Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad said in May that the draft stipulates Israeli ships are "absolutely not allowed" to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while ships from "hostile countries" would not receive transit permits unless compensation is paid for war-related losses.
