On July 24, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Equipment Industry Department inspected GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co. and Zhaoqing Xpeng Motors Co. over vehicle production safety and consistency controls, according to Jiemian News. The checks focused on smart connected vehicle safety assurance, design and development capacity, production capability, and compliance with production access requirements, and officials randomly sampled vehicles and power batteries for testing against national standards.
The department said it will continue supervising automobile and motorcycle manufacturers and products, and will deal with firms that are found to have problems in accordance with laws and regulations. Jiemian News also reported that the Passenger Car Association said China’s pickup truck market sold 62,000 vehicles in June, up 29% year on year and 3% month on month, with January-June sales reaching 343,000, up 18%.
