Secret Service says threat environment for Trump and other protectees is highest ever

According to CNBC, a senior U.S. Secret Service official said Wednesday that the threat environment for the agency's protectees, including President Donald Trump, is the highest it has ever seen. The official said there have been about 10,000 cases involving threats to government officials, including Supreme Court justices, so far in 2026, up 40% from the same period last year, and said the number of mental health committals tied to suspected threat cases has risen tenfold. Deputy Director Matthew Quinn said the agency is very concerned about drones, calling the threat real, while also saying the White House is very safe from attack and that the technology being used at protected sites is cutting edge. The briefing came ahead of Friday's rescheduled annual dinner for the White House Correspondents' Association at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, which Trump is set to attend.
