DoJ Says Almost 3,000 Websites Were Taken Down For Illegal World Cup Streams

Almost 3,000 websites have been blocked or seized for illegally streaming World Cup matches, the US Department of Justice said, with more than 1,000 domains shut down in the US and a similar number blocked in Colombia. BBC reported that enforcement agencies in the US and South America carried out the action under investigations called Operation Offsides and Operation Red Card. The DOJ said the crackdown has now taken down hundreds more webpages after 400 were removed at the end of last month. Colombian authorities also said four members of the cybercriminal group Los Ciberinfiltrados were arrested, while 11 people were arrested and convicted in Colombia for the illegal manufacture and distribution of fake sporting merchandise.
