UBS has hired former Goldman Sachs managing director Takehiro Sakuramoto as head of Japan debt capital markets, seeking to rebuild its presence in the Japanese corporate bond market. According to Jin10, an internal memo showed Sakuramoto joined UBS's Japan local investment banking division on Thursday. The spokesperson said UBS will compete to underwrite Japanese corporate bond mandates, with an initial focus on foreign currency-denominated bonds. This is the latest in a series of senior management hires by UBS in Japan recently. Sakuramoto is at least the fourth Goldman Sachs veteran to join UBS Securities Japan in the past 10 months. He previously led Goldman Sachs' Tokyo debt capital markets business. This marks his second stint at UBS, having served on the UBS capital markets team earlier in his career, and he also previously worked at Morgan Stanley.
