Volkswagen is expanding its affordable electric vehicle lineup by introducing a compact SUV, the ID. Cross, as purchase subsidies and high fuel prices drive European consumers away from gasoline-powered bestsellers like the T-Cross. According to Jin10, the new model has a starting price of approximately 28,000 euros (about $32,000) and will further strengthen Volkswagen's urban EV portfolio, which increasingly competes with models such as BYD's Dolphin series. Volkswagen said on Wednesday that the ID. Cross is now open for orders, though sales of a version with a smaller battery will launch later. The ID. Cross will join the new Polo, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq in offering an all-electric driving experience at a lower price point. All models will be produced in Spain, where manufacturing costs are significantly lower than at Volkswagen's German headquarters.
