A 41-year-old Russian man in Bali was kidnapped and forced to surrender access to his cryptocurrency accounts, according to a report cited by local outlet Bali Discovery.
According to ChainCatcher, the man was stopped while riding his motorcycle home from work when a black Nissan Serena blocked him, and two masked attackers restrained him with plastic handcuffs, covered his head, and took him to a two-story house.
He was held for about 30 hours and assaulted, including being punched and kicked, the report said. The attackers allegedly demanded his crypto account passwords, took his phone, and used a villa key taken from his motorcycle to enter his residence and seize a second phone to further access his accounts.
At about 4:00 AM on July 4, the man was left near Udayana University Hospital in Jimbaran, where he received treatment. Bali police spokesperson Ariasandy confirmed authorities had received a report and said police were pursuing the suspects.
