According to Axios, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired a missile at a commercial cargo ship attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, hitting and damaging the vessel, a U.S. official said. The IRGC said in a statement that the strait is "closed until further notice." Axios reported the incident came a day after the Trump administration demanded Iran publicly guarantee safe passage through the strait, and hours after Iran's foreign minister, Oman's foreign minister and Qatari officials held talks in Muscat aimed at resolving the standoff. A diplomat briefed on the negotiations said Oman proposed fully reopening both shipping lanes, including reopening the southern route through Omani waters without prior approval, but Iran's delegation did not secure approval in Muscat and took the proposal back to Tehran for further discussions.
