British politician Nigel Farage has resigned as the Member of Parliament for the Clacton constituency and said he will run in a by-election to regain the seat, stating that the move is intended to oppose the political establishment.
According to Odaily, Farage is currently under investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards over a large political donation that was allegedly not declared in line with required rules.
The report said that ahead of the 2024 general election, Farage received £5 million from crypto investor Christopher Harborne, who lives in Thailand and holds a stake in the stablecoin issuer Tether.
Questions have continued over whether the crypto-linked funding was properly disclosed under MPs’ reporting obligations. The report said Farage chose to resign and seek re-election amid the investigation pressure.
