STOCKS | Dow Hits Record; Hang Seng, HSCEI Reach One-Week High as HSBC Sets New High

U.S. stocks were mixed overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a record high, while U.S. stock index futures rose further this morning, according to Ming Pao. Japan, China A-shares, Hong Kong stocks and South Korea’s KOSPI advanced, while Taiwan stocks and South Korea’s KOSDAQ fell. The U.S. June nonfarm payrolls increase was far below expectations, easing concerns about further U.S. rate hikes. Gold extended gains and was on track for a third straight rise. U.S. markets will be closed tonight. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index hit one-week highs, with the Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng Tech Index both rising above their 10-day moving averages. HSBC (0005) climbed to a record high.
