U.S. President Donald Trump Withholds Support for Housing Bill, Urges Passage of SAVE Act

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday declined to commit to signing a housing bill that previously received bipartisan support in Congress, saying lawmakers should first pass the controversial Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. According to PANews, Trump called the election bill “the most important right now” and said it would affect the future for many years. The SAVE Act would require voters to present photo identification when voting and provide proof of citizenship during registration. Trump said the housing bill includes “many provisions proposed by Democrats,” adding that “before the SAVE Act is signed, I would rather not sign any bill.” The housing bill reportedly includes a four-year ban on a Federal Reserve central bank digital currency.
