Federal Judge in Boston Blocks Trump Executive Order Tightening Mail-In Voting Rules

A federal judge in the Boston area halted the implementation of an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at tightening rules for mail-in voting, preventing it from taking effect before the November election that will determine control of Congress. According to Odaily, U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani sided with a coalition of Democratic-led states, which argued that Trump was attempting to illegally interfere with states’ administration of federal elections. Talwani said the president does not have the authority to compile state voter rolls, and that the U.S. Postal Service has no statutory authorization to set binding rules for mail-in voting. She added that under the U.S. Constitution, responsibility for managing federal elections rests with the states.
