Tools for Humanity, the iris-scanning startup co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania and lead developer of World (formerly Worldcoin), is reportedly laying off workers after an internal email sent to staff on Monday. The reductions reflect a “next phase” strategy and will be detailed at a town hall meeting on Tuesday, according to BeInCrypto, with the number of affected roles still unclear. Tools for Humanity is valued at $2.5 billion and employs more than 500 people. Regulators have pressured the project, including a 1.1 billion won ($830,000) fine in South Korea and an order by Brazil’s ANPD to stop paying residents for iris scans.
