Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that a U.S. military shell struck an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz on the night of the 2nd, damaging its engine room. According to Odaily, in response to what it termed an 'act of aggression and violation of Hormuz Strait regulations,' the Iranian forces launched a missile attack on the U.S.-Israeli vessel 'Panaya.'
The announcement further stated that during this new wave of aggression, U.S. forces attacked an Iranian communications tower south of Qeshm Island. In retaliation, the Iranian Aerospace Force targeted a U.S. airbase in a regional country and the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet with missiles and drones.
Iran had previously warned that any act of aggression would be met with a significantly harsher response. The country reiterated that compromising the security of the Strait of Hormuz would result in severe consequences for the U.S. military.
