Over the past 24 hours, more than 20 commercial vessels have traversed the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. According to BlockBeats, while the volume of commercial shipping remains a fraction of pre-war levels, there has been an improvement in vessel traffic through this critical waterway.
One U.S. official noted that the ships passing through the strait included cargo ships, container vessels, and oil tankers entering and exiting the Persian Gulf. To mitigate the risk of Iranian attacks, some ships have turned off their transponders during navigation.
During the conflict, the threat of Iranian attacks and mines deterred most vessels from crossing this narrow passage. Currently, the United States is enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports. Ships not heading to Iranian ports are not subject to the blockade and are allowed to pass freely.
