Nepal's Former Rapper Poised to Become Prime Minister After Parliamentary Election

Nepal held its first parliamentary election last Thursday following last year's "Generation Z" protests that led to the government's overthrow. According to Ming Pao, the election results indicate that 35-year-old former rapper and prime ministerial candidate, Shah, who previously served as the mayor of Kathmandu, is likely to become the next prime minister. Shah, supported by young voters, is part of the centrist emerging party, the National Independent Party, which is expected to secure nearly two-thirds of the parliamentary seats. Shah directly challenged the 74-year-old former Prime Minister Oli, who was ousted last year, and won his constituency by a significant margin.
