Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said multiple statements circulating on social media about an alleged conflict with the United States were fabricated. According to Jin10, the head of the IRGC public relations department said on June 27 local time that the texts and statements attributed to the IRGC and shared online in recent days were not issued by the force. The official said that starting several hours earlier, multiple written statements labeled as coming from the IRGC had spread on social media, but none were released by the IRGC. Separately, U.S. Central Command said in a statement on June 26 local time that its forces carried out strikes against Iran that day. In the early hours of June 27, the Iranian Students News Agency reported that the IRGC said its navy and air force had thwarted a U.S. attack on Sirik Island and forced the attacking forces to retreat, describing the action as defending Iran’s sovereignty over its territory and waters.
